The Pink City, Jaipur, since historical times, has been the capital of royalty and even today has numerous reminiscences of the same. One of the first perfectly planned cities in India, today it is the capital of the state of Rajasthan.
The city and its adjacent areas are dotted with palaces, forts, all of which make one stand and wonder in awe of the architecture of the structures. This hoary charm is still evident on the face of this great city.
The pink color on the walls of this lively and vibrant city has given it the name of the pink city. There are numerous places of interest for anyone who visits the city, be it the historical aspect, the culinary aspect or any other. Historically, being a capital, Jaipur was laden with palaces and forts of kings who ruled over the city. Hawa Mahal is the most famous of the palaces, and literally translates to be the Wind Palace. There are forts that were used during warring times to convey news of an incoming invasion to defend the home boundary. Nahargarh Fort located on the outskirts of the city, is one of the grandest still remaining in the present day.
Jaipur was founded centuries ago by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh, and he too has left a commemorative structure in his memory that turns out to be an observatory, named the Jantar Mantar. Built under the auspices of the great Maharaja, it turned out to one among the first of pre- modern India’s best planned cities, and still is considered by many to be so.
There are numerous places of religious importance, including the Lakshmi Narayan temple, the Amber Fort, the Jaigarh Fort, just to name a few. Tourism is one of the mainstays of Jaipur, and some of the best hotels in India are found here. The people are known for their hospitality and sincere care that they extend towards guests.
A beautiful city as is Jaipur, one doesn’t get the feeling of being fed up of being in an urban city as there are numerous places within the city limits that captivate the eyes. These include the City Palace, the Albert Hall, the Statue Circle, Moti Dungri, among numerous others. Gardens are no scarcity in Jaipur as they help improve the aesthetic appeal and beauty of any city. Some notable gardens include the Sisodia Rani Ka Bagh and the Kanak Vrindavan.
The winter season is the perfect time to pay a visit to this princely royal city, which is the months in between November and February or March as the summers tend to be too hot. Besides, there are other festivals that the city partakes in and celebrates to the fullest. These include the Teej Festival, The Kite Festival, The Elephant Festival and the Gangaur Festival.
It is guaranteed that anyone who comes to Jaipur is sure to have memories not of an urban city, but a princely state in all its grandeur, etched in their memories.
